A Review of Contact

The Theme and Storyline

With the stunning graphics of the Aztecs' blocky hieroglyphs and stepped pyramids, Contact is set against the backdrop of the South American pre-colonial cultures and accompanied by beautiful renderings of the jungle and sacrificial ziggurats which create an all-encompassing and atmospheric experience akin to the opening moments of Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

Graphics, Animation and Audio

The 3D structure of Contact's symbols as they cascade onto the grid is a fantastic sight and a major part of its appeal. Each symbol is drawn beautifully and animated to highlight its weight, with accompanying sound design to emphasise it further. The ambient music adds to the immersive environment without ever becoming a distraction.

Gameplay and Features

Contact is built around a five by seven grid that rewards players for touching groups of five or more symbols vertically or horizontally (not diagonally). Winning spins cause all non-winning symbols to disappear, with winning symbols falling to the bottom to be replaced by new symbols cascading from the top. This action continues until there are no new winning combinations possible. The sides of the reels house multipliers, which are triggered when winning combinations fill up the reel to that level. The highest multiplier achieved counts, with the bottom row providing a times two multiplier, the fourth row offering a times three multiplier, and the sixth row presenting a times four multiplier.

Wilds, Free Spins and Bonuses

Contact does not make use of Wild or Bonus symbols. Players must instead get winning symbols up to the top row, where three free spins are awarded. The entire grid must be filled in order to trigger the Super Bonus round and grant six free spins. The Bonus and Super Bonus rounds are played out on a different grid with new symbols and added multipliers on the side. The rarity of these bonuses adds to Contact's massive volatility.

Bet Limits, Variance and RTP

With a return to player rate of 96.55%, Contact sits slightly above average at 96%. The range of bets on offer varies from $/£/€0.20 to $/£/€100.00 per spin, which allows for a wide variety of bankrolls. Contact boasts an incredibly high volatility that should appeal to high-risk players.

Final Thoughts

Not only is Contact visually appealing, it is also an enjoyable game to play. The stunning graphics, immersive sound design, and thrilling bonus features all combine to create a volatile, yet rewarding experience with a high return to player rate of 96.55%. If you're a fan of high-volatility games, we highly recommend Contact.
